about us

Who we are

Warm & Community-Focused

Fotumalama Aoga Amata is a preschool operated by the Samoa Methodist Church in Manukau. We offer a warm, culturally-grounded learning environment where children are nurtured, loved, and encouraged to grow through play, language, and care. Our teaching embraces both Samoan and English languages, helping children build confidence, identity, and readiness for school. With strong values rooted in church and community, Fotumalama Aoga Amata welcomes families to join us on this journey of learning and growth.
WHAT CHILDREN LEARN AT FOTUMALAMA

Our Programme Supports the Whole Child

Infants (6 months – 1 yr)

We provide a calm, loving space where infants feel secure and supported. Through gentle routines, warm relationships, and opportunities to explore safely, children begin to develop confidence and awareness of the world around them. Our faiaoga respond to each child’s cues with care and respect.

Toddlers (2 yrs – 3 yrs)

Toddlers are encouraged to explore their growing independence while still receiving nurturing guidance. Our teaching team supports language development, social confidence, problem-solving skills, and early self-help abilities through play, movement, and meaningful interactions.

Toddlers (2 yrs – 3 yrs)

Preschool children are supported as they prepare for their transition to school. Learning experiences focus on independence, social competence, early literacy and numeracy foundations, creativity, and cultural identity. Our curriculum is engaging and purposeful, helping each child grow intellectually, socially, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

Our Philosophy

Fotumalama Aoga Amata is a caring, culturally grounded learning environment where children feel safe, loved, and supported in their development. We value play as the foundation for early learning and encourage children to explore, discover, and build confidence at their own pace.

Gagana Sāmoa, Samoan cultural values, and Christian principles shape our daily practice. Children learn through stories, songs, conversations, reciting, weaving, and meaningful activities that strengthen their identity, belonging, and connection to their heritage.

Our faiaoga nurture each child with warmth and respect, supporting their spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual wellbeing. We believe children thrive when they feel understood, valued, and included in all learning experiences.

We honour the partnership with parents and aiga, recognising them as a child’s first teachers. Together, we work to support every child’s growth so they become confident, capable, and ready for primary school and future learning.
